Methodology

Of course. Identifying undervalued projects with strong fundamentals is a key part of crypto research. Here’s a breakdown of some promising AI and DeFi projects that appear to have low visibility relative to their potential, based on current data.
Methodology
To identify these projects, I’ve filtered for tokens in the AI and DeFi categories with a market capitalization of less than $1 billion, which I'm using as a proxy for "low visibility" in the current market. I've then analyzed their fundamentals based on their description, technology, and market position. Please note that this analysis is based on data available today, and the landscape in 2025 could be significantly different.
Overlooked AI & DeFi Projects
Here are some projects that fit the criteria of having strong fundamentals but are not yet in the top tier of market capitalization:
1. The Graph (GRT)
- Category: AI, Infrastructure, DePIN
- Market Cap: ~$650 Million
Fundamental Strength:
The Graph is an essential indexing protocol for querying data from blockchains. It's often called the "Google of blockchains" because it allows developers to easily access and use blockchain data for their decentralized applications (dApps). This is a critical piece of infrastructure for the entire DeFi and Web3 ecosystem. As more dApps are built, the demand for The Graph's services should increase.
Low Visibility Aspect:
While well-known among developers, GRT's market cap is still relatively low for a project that provides such a fundamental layer to the crypto economy. It is a utility token that is used to pay for queries on the network, which gives it a clear value accrual mechanism.
2. Artificial Superintelligence Alliance (FET)
- Category: AI, Layer 1
- Market Cap: ~$613 Million
Fundamental Strength:
The Artificial Superintelligence Alliance is a merger of SingularityNET, Fetch.ai, and Ocean Protocol, creating the largest open-source, independent player in AI research and development. By combining their technologies, they aim to accelerate the development of decentralized Artificial General Intelligence (AGI). The project is focused on creating a decentralized digital economy where autonomous "agents" can perform tasks and transactions. This is a direct and ambitious play on the long-term vision of decentralized AI.
Low Visibility Aspect:
Despite the high-profile merger, the combined market cap is still under $1 billion, which is modest for a project with such a grand vision in the AI space. If they can deliver on their roadmap, there is significant upside potential.
3. Beldex (BDX)
- Category: AI, Privacy, DePIN
- Market Cap: ~$600 Million
Fundamental Strength:
Beldex is a privacy-focused ecosystem that includes a suite of decentralized applications, such as a private messenger (BChat), a decentralized VPN (BelNet), and a privacy-preserving browser. The native coin, BDX, is used for confidential transactions. Privacy is a powerful and enduring narrative in the crypto space, and Beldex is building a comprehensive ecosystem around it.
Low Visibility Aspect:
Privacy coins have faced regulatory headwinds, which has likely suppressed the valuation of projects like Beldex. However, for those who believe in the long-term value of privacy, BDX presents an interesting opportunity at its current market cap.
4. Theta Network (THETA)
- Category: AI, DePIN, Metaverse
- Market Cap: ~$492 Million
Fundamental Strength:
Theta is a decentralized video delivery network that aims to reduce the costs of content delivery. It has since expanded its scope to include AI and entertainment applications. By allowing users to share their bandwidth and computing resources, Theta is creating a decentralized cloud for AI, media, and entertainment. This is a strong use case in the DePIN (Decentralized Physical Infrastructure Networks) sector.
Low Visibility Aspect:
Theta has been around for a while, and its price has been in a downtrend for a significant period. However, the project continues to build and has a strong list of enterprise validators, including Google, Samsung, and Sony. If they can successfully pivot to the AI and DePIN narrative, the current market cap could be seen as undervalued.
Summary Table
| Project | Symbol | Category | Market Cap | Key Fundamentals |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| The Graph | GRT | AI, Infrastructure | ~$650M | Essential data indexing for dApps |
| Artificial Superintelligence Alliance | FET | AI, Layer 1 | ~$613M | Largest open-source decentralized AI initiative |
| Beldex | BDX | AI, Privacy | ~$600M | Comprehensive privacy-focused ecosystem |
| Theta Network | THETA | AI, DePIN | ~$492M | Decentralized cloud for AI, media, and entertainment |
